Mood Lighting { New Bedroom Light }
As I've said before lighting can enhance the mood of a room. When I was searching for the perfect light fixture of our bedroom, I knew I wanted something that would feel classic romantic and modern. The light also had to work as our tastes changes of the years. I fell in love light that combined a drum shade and chandelier, in a pretty chic and modern way! most importantly, Mr CLH also likes like light. He likes the modern vibe of the drum shade, and like that is paired with a chandelier for a fresh take.
Our chandelier arrived last week, and my husband installed in Sunday night. The light was very easy to install, he followed the directions and in few minutes later, the light was hung. I've been staring at our light ever since. I swear I'm like a kid, turning the light on and off.
Before I show you our new light, I have to share our old light. Simple standard light fixture, its the same light fixture we had in our dining room, that we updated with a drum shade. It's always fun removing old light fixtures, we discovered our now white ceiling used to be peach. I'm guessing the ceiling was peach in the 1980's. I did a quick paint touch up before installing our new light was installed.
Our new light came with an extra long chain, we simply used a cup hook and swagged the lamp backwards towards our bed. It hangs perfectly over our bed and lights up the whole room, in a soft glow. I decided to use 20 watt bulbs instead of a high watt, since there's 6 bulbs. I love simple ceiling medallions, they add extra oomph under light fixtures, we found a simple one at Home Depot.
Here's our new light, lights on. I love the shadows it casts on our ceiling.
Lights off
We found our chandelier on Overstock.com a few months back. I've been waiting to buy it ever since. A few weeks ago, Overstock.com emailed me a $ 25.00 off coupon. A few minutes later I bought our chandy. The shipping was super fast, I ordered in on a Thursday and it arrived on Tuesday!
Here's the budget breakdown
$ 131.99 - Chandelier
2.95 { shipping }
- 25.00 coupon
$ 109.94 Total for Chandelier
7.99 Medallion
7.89 New light bulbs
1.50 Large Cup Hook
Total Price $ 127.32
I paid less then the original price of the chandelier with my extras { light bulbs, and Medallion etc} Can't beat that. Up next, my craigslist dresser that's finally done. Yup it only took me 5 months to complete, but I got sidetracked with our dining room re-do, re-painting our living room, outdoor projects: front door and our trellis.
Well what do you think? Does the light fixture just wow you?

Pop of Yellow
By now I'm sure you all now my love for the color yellow. It's funny I never was a yellow girl until I needed to find the perfect color to go with our aqua blue living room wall. Yellow is one of those great colors that look so amazing with certain colors { paired with, aqua-blue, Orange, lime green, yellow, white, navy blue etc.} I had a few comments mentioned they might need to add a bit of yellow in their home. So I looked for some fab yellow finds!
1. CB2 has these great Mid Century modern vases, for a affordable price. They range from $ 8.95 to $ 10.95. I like the yellow/lime combo. They would look cute on a mantel or in a buffet.
2. I always love how pillows can change the look of a sofa, chair of bed. The yellow zebra lumbar pillow is so much fun, from Etsy seller MiCasaBella. I also like the bright yellow pillow with the blossom, so pretty.
3. Art, is one of those great ways to introduce a bold color ( I have a Keep Calm Poster in bright yellow in our living room) I love the bunny print, it would add sunshine to any room, imagine it in a office of baby's room. This Etsy artist also has some amazing watercolor/ink prints. I plan on ordering a few prints from her, for our living room
4. This bright tea kettle is the perfect pop of color on top of a stove. It's only $ 19.99 on Amazon, what a great deal.
5. As you know I'm a huge fan of fabric, this Cufflink print is so pretty. It would look amazing as long flowery curtains. For only $ 8.95 per yard, its a steal.
6. Fun bright colored glasses always add charm to any spring or summer meal. You can easily mix and match the set for a fun look. I adore these Lemonade and Lemon glasses from Crate and Barrel.
What pop of color do you love in your home? Are you getting a bit of Yellow Fever like I have?

Nate Berkus: Bedroom Rules
A few days ago my husband and I took our son to the library to check out some books. Our plan is for our son to write a few book reports over the summer (I know were mean parents). While our son was in the kids section of the library, I somehow maneged to find myself looking at Interior Design books. One book, I came across and have been wanting to buy for quite some time is Home Rules, by Nate Berkus. I flipped though the book and decided to check it out before I buy it, its all mine until June 1, 2010.
I flipped to the bedroom section, since we are currently working on our bedroom. Remember two weeks ago I shared with you a ghastly { in my best English Accent } before photo. I know our bedroom looked awful, I'm just keeping it real.
Here are 5 of Nate Burkas Bedroom Rules, I'm applying in our bedroom
1. Make the bedroom luxurious and inviting.
CLH: I bought all new sheets, duvet, shams, coverlet and am making velvet shams for our Euro pillows. I think the bedding always helps add that luxe feel.
2. Serenity is the key, keep the wall color soothing and the trip crisp
CLH: We beefed up our baseboards, like we did in our kitchen and painted them a crisp white. For the wall color we choose a grey, that looks amazing in sunlight and at night.
3. Have all lights on dimmers and shades and drapes that are easy to open and lower.
CHL: Our chandelier arrived yesterday and Mr. CLH will be putting that light on a dimmer. I'm swapping out our high voltage bedside lights for a lower watts. To help create more ambiance at night. Our curtains will be stationary and were keeping our wood blinds.
4. Create a reading Nook, keep a stack of books on hand
CLH: This will be the most changeling - but I think I can pull it off. I've always wanted a reading space in our bedroom, so I'll be looking for a chair I can reupholster form a thrift store or on Craiglist.
5. A mix of bedroom furniture.
CLH: We have matching night stands and a mix of dark wood furniture and painted furniture. It's a good mix of my style and my husbands.
Next week, I should have lots of photos of our bedroom as we get closer to our after. Its going to be a busy weekend, but that makes it so much more fun!
Do you own a copy of Home Rules? Have you applied Nate's suggestions to your spaces, if so which ones?

I like this bedroom Nate designed, it feels serene and fresh. I like the crisp white bedding and the neutral headboard and how not one thing overpowers another. Everything is just layered in so nice.
