Spooky Halloween Entryway

This month has just flown by, and Halloween is only a few days away! For Halloween last year we decorated our entry with Spooky Scary bugs this year the black crows took over our entryway. It's so much fun to decorate our entry, it creates a great focal point in out living room { since it opens up right into our living }  For this years Halloween decor we used a mix of paper crows and the stuffed { fake } kind for a creepy look. I also used the Flor rug tiles I purchased last year, if you look close you can see the pattern of the spiderwebs, creepy! Here's our Spooky Halloween entryway.

I might have to paint the inside door jam of our front door, the exposed wood is looking funky! lol

On the inside of the door, I also hung the black feather wreath I made a few years ago. This was a super simple project, here's the how to. Here's a nice full view of our entryway.

Since we've decorated our entryway two years in a row, I think its becoming our family tradition. We all like taking turns adding to the creepy factor.

Have you decorated for Halloween? If so did you go with a theme? I'd love to hear!

Homemade Kids Halloween Costume Ideas

Halloween is just around the corner, and its time to start planning Halloween costumes for the kiddos { well maybe just one kiddo this year } I suggested to my tween Tabari to try something different this year for Halloween costumes, lets make it! I've always was wanted to make a Halloween costume, but time always ran out and we ended up at the local big box store. In the past he's been Simba from the Lion King , Sully from Monsters Inc, a Boxer the list goes on and on. He was on board for to make his own costume. He likes doing making things { he has DIY in his DNA! } so this is a perfect project for us to work on together. We checked out Martha Stewart for costume ideas, we both liked Super Hero & Space Invader. I think the Space Invader would be lots of fun, love the cup hat! lol

Then we looked on familyfun.com and came across more cute ideas. The costumes the stood out most is his mind: Lego Block and a Super Large Grocery Bag { of grossness } How cool would it be to make a Lego Block costume and the how to looks pretty simple! The grocery bag would also be cool.

Now we just need to decide what to make him and gather our homemade supplies!! I'll share his Halloween costume soon and how we made it. For Avery still not sure what he'll be for Halloween and I was thinking Gypsy or Fortune Teller for me and Hasani undecided. A few years back Hasani & I dressed up as Diana Ross and DMC from Run DMC you can see the picture here.

Are you making a Halloween Costume this year? What was your favorite Halloween Costume of all time? Any plans yet for Halloween?

Our Spooky Scary Party Decor

As I mentioned yesterday my sons Spooky Scray Halloween Party was over the weekend, he had lots of fun. He was super excited when Saturday morning arrived and wanting to wear his ninja costume at 8 am!! I had to remind him we still had a few things to buy and do for the party lol. I did most of the Halloween decorating in our house in the dining room, entryway and a little in the Living Room { were the kids crashed and played games } I kept the Halloween decor simple with a little spooky scary thrown in the mix. Here's a reminder of how our entryway looks.

I decorated the mirror using some 'rag netting' and some black spier silhouettes left over from our front door. I hung a black feather wreath I made last year for our front door on the mirror to up the spooky factor. The wreath is a super simple DIY project, I spent $ 1.00 on a foam wreath at Dollar Tree and bought three 6ft feather boas of Michaels for $ 1.99 each. Simply wrap the boa around the wreath and use a hot glue gun to secure, and some black grosgrain ribbon and hang.
I filled our vase with branches I sprayed painted black and added crows on them. The buffet was used as our drink station, we made 'Brain Juice' punch. Sadly I have no pictures of the punch! We used a brain mold we bought from Wal-Mart and filled it with pink lemonade. We had the punch with Lemonade, Cranberry Juice & Sprite. It was freaking looking at a brain floating in punch :) I also planned on writing the Menu on the chalk board, but forgot all about it until the party was over.

I found the eye balls at Michaels, I think they were a buck for 4 eyes. Tabari had the great idea to place them on our small white vases!!

A few months back I found three candles holders for clearance at Kohl's, I paid only $ 13 bucks for all three! The originally color was a bronze, not really our style but knew they would look great glossy black. I used some cheapo black gloss spray paint and transformed them. Their new look reminds me of these Z Gallerie candles holders.

The candle holders looked great with a Crow, Candle and mini pumpkin on top. I was also surprised how great the cheapo spray paint worked. I even spray painted them myself,a task I normally leave to Mr. CLH - since I'm known to get drips and crackles. This time around the srpa wen on nice and smooth.

I had planned on baking home made cupcakes, but ran out of time and energy since I was still under the weather on Saturday. I picked up a mix of chocolate and white cupcakes

See the gloss on those candle sticks! lol - I filled a a witches cauldron with cheese balls and a crow guarded the dish.

Here's how the table looked before the 'hot' foods were placed on the table.

It was hard to get a full shot of the room before the party due the weather. It was a wet rainy Saturday which meant gloomy pictures. Here's Tabari doing his kung-fu pose!

That's how Spooky Scary Halloween party decor looked !! I hoped you enjoyed party crashing with us!! :)

Spooky Scary Halloween Planning

I've been in full Halloween Party planning mode for our sons upcoming Halloween Party. Hence, the lack of blog posts! I've already shared our Spooky Scary Entryway we decorated to welcome his guests, now I'm thinking about the menu and Spooky Scary decor for our dining room & front of our house and games. I guess this post is a mish mash of ideas.

I've gathered a slew of Halloween pictures from various sources over the last few months. I love love this spooky dining room, and would love to create a similar look in ours. I think this a perfect layout for a Halloween Party, a lot of spooky with out being to creepy to 10 year olds.

I love this vignette, perfect ideas of our buffet in our dining room.

Even though the table below is dressed more for Thanksgiving, The various size glasses covering the table look amazing. I've been storing our empty clear wine bottles in hopes of suing some for Halloween decor.

I really need to find a large cloche to cover up books and trap a nasty spider! Icky

Moving our to the outdoors, this weekend we'll be buying lots of pumpkins for the front our house and for a few on the inside. I love all the spooky crows greeting guests as they enter of home. I've stalked up on Crows like crazy this year, thanks to Dollar Tree. They are selling the same exact crows as Michaels for only a buck! Can't beat that price.

Now that Halloween is only a few weeks away, have your started decorating? Are you planning on throwing a party this year?

Spooky Scary Entryway

Halloween decor & fun is in full swing at our Casa. The first Halloween project we talked so far is our entryway. Normally our entry looks bright and cheery with our wedding pics on display.

For Halloween we wanted our entryway to look more spooky and scary. So we replaced the sweet and upped the creep factor. Our inspiration for Halloween entryway makeover came from the Arachnophobia rug tiles from Flor. It's the first rug I've purchased from Flor and it won't be the last, its so simple to together. I used six tiles for the rugs and the six tiles fit the space well. I didn't even use the stickers it came with Mr. CLH and I had fun taking turns placing a bunch creepy crawlers on our walls.

Here's how our Halloween entryway looks. From the moment you enter our house, your greeted by a web of spiders on the floor oh and rats.

I bought some Martha Stewart spider and bug silhouettes on sale at Joann's. I love the size of the bugs and spiders, they look so creepy. I also mixed in a few 3D spiders to balance out the flatness of the silhouettes. The black spots on the floor are some roaches I picked at the Dollar Tree, so really and creep looking icky.

A glittered skeleton rounded out the look on the ledges. Our son was at his cousins house while we were decorating and liked how spooky scary our entryway looks. Next up we'll be adding a little spookiness to our dining room.

I love how the the spider silhouettes looks in the panel of our front door. It looks so cool from both the inside and outside.

There's are spooky scary { have you been noticing my reference to 30 Rock? } entryway. Have you started decorating for Halloween yet? If so what did you decorate?

Is It To Early?

I was all set to share our living room updates today, but didn't have chance to take pictures last night. Anyways my question is, Is It To Early to start planning my inside & outside Halloween decor? Truth be told I've been thinking about Halloween costumes and scary decor since mid August! lol This year we've been thinking about having a Halloween party for kids & adults so its been on my brain. I know most people don't like thinking about Halloween until October 1st - me I'm happy a few stores are in full Halloween mode. Minus Target, they only have Halloween in the dollar section { which is a good thing, who doesn't love seasonal decor at a super deep discount! }

For now I've been keeping busy gathering inspiration from the queen of Halloween - Martha.

The are so many frightfully creepy Halloween decor projects I can't wait to tackle!  Is Halloween on your brain, or you still Summer dreaming? I admit I'm Summer dreaming { with weather in the high 90's its hard not to}  but can't wait to bring on the fun scary decorations.

The Rapper & The Diva

In honor of Halloween I thought I'd share a picture of Halloween 08. Mr. CLH was DMC from Run DMC and I was Diana Ross. We went to a mutual friends party and had a blast.

Spooky Chic Halloween Wreath

I fell in love with a black feather wreath from Target, just not the price. I decided to be inventive and DIY. I went to Micheals craft store and brought three 6ft fluffy feather boas for $1.99 each. While I was there I also picked up some black ribbon.

On the way home I stopped by The Dollar Tree and brought a $1.00 foam wreath. I applied glue and wrapped the feather boas around the wreath. The result is a spooky chic Halloween wreath.

{ Ignore the lovely writing on my beat-up door! }

FYI: I was browsing Eddie Ross's blog today and came across the feather wreath how to - with great pictures! I forgot to take picturse of the process...oops

His website has many great Halloween Decor ideas!
